On to 2012!

Yikes!  Many apologies for my lax efforts in updating this blog.  December was a super busy month here in the YA department - many thanks to all of you who participated in all of the programs.

Make sure you stop by the YA desk any time now to pick up a copy of the winter events calendar.  Lot's of good stuff is coming up including a return to our Candy Counting Contest in February!

October - What's Left

     Rest assured, you have not missed your chance to participate in fabulous YA programs during the month of October.  Although we are halfway through the month, there are still a few amzaing programs for you to participate in.

     Register for our Teen Craft Night on Wednesday, October 19th.  We will be making fabulous, sparkly mini-pumpkins that will be the perfect decorations for Halloween.

     Also, fans of The Compound should sign up for Lunch & Lit happening on Saturday, October 22nd.  We'll be discussing the book and eating delicious tacos!

     Lastly, RSVP for our 2nd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest.  Show off your design skills by carving the most interesting pumpkin.  Whether it's scary, funny, or downright ugly, we want you to give it a go.  All you need to do is bring the pumpkin.  Pumpkin Carving will take place on Wednesday, October 26th.

Hunger Games

How have you not yet registered for our Hunger Games book discussion?!  The Hunger Games is an amazing, dystopian trilogy that will have you hooked from the first chapter.  Sign up today to participate in our book discussions and trivia showdown.  We'll have you all prepped by the time the movie comes out in March!

Teen Game Night

Are you a master of Monopoly?  Show off your real estate skills by participating in the YA departments Monopoly tournament on Wednesday, October 5th.  From 6-7 p.m. buy up, and build on, as much property as you can.  At the end of the hour whoever has the most money will win a delicious prize.

Teen Movie Night

Greetings!
Believe it or not, it's time for another Teen Movie Night!  On Monday, October 3rd, we will be showing I Am Number Four.  The movie begins at 5:30 and is for those in grades 6-12 only.  Delicious snacks will be served!

The Hunger Games

     If you haven't yet discovered the fabulousness that is The Hunger Games I suggest you check them out.  For those of you who are fans of the series, this November we will be having a book discussion group and a Hunger Games Trivia Night.  You can sign up for this program beginning the first week of October.  If you want to refresh your memory on the story, you can also pick up copies of the books to read.
     If you have heard about The Hunger Games but have not yet checked them out, this is a great opportunity for you to do so.

Coming Up in YA ...

Hola Teens!
I hope that all of your school years are off to a fantastic start.
Here are a few things that have been, and will be, happening in the YA department:

- Come check out my new books!  I just got a TON of new ones in.  Whether you like fantasy, realistic fiction, or mystery, I assure you, there is something there that you will like.
- It's not too late to sign up for our September craft.  On Wednesday, 9/21, we will be making Duct Tape Roses.  If you want to participate, call 860.584.7787 ext 2020 and I'll get you on the list.
- The October movie has been chosen!  We will be showing I am Number 4 on 10/3 at 5:30.  No sign up is required.

Now What?

     Greetings, Teens!
     Summer Reading 2011 has officially ended.  I am sure you are all at a loss for what you will do now.  Never fear, the YA department has it covered.  Make sure you stop by the YA desk to pick up a fresh copy of the Fall Events Calendar.  The next 3 months will be jam packed with movie nights, crafts, game tournaments and even an Iron Chef competition.

End of Summer Movie

Stop by the YA department now through next Wednesday to vote for the movie that you would like to watch during our End of Summer Reading party on August 12th.

Movie Night!

     Tomorrow is our first Teen Movie Night of the summer!  Stop in to watch Gnomeo & Juliet in the cool, air conditioned library!  There will be popcorn, drinks, and delicious brownies!  No registration is required for tomorrow - see you then!

Summer Reading

We are off to a fabulous (and very busy) start to the Summer Reading program!  Already over 130 of you have come in to sign up.  This summer we are offering some very nice raffle prizes (Kindles!  Gift Cards!) as well as a variety of fun programs.

Our first program will be on Monday, July 11th when we will be showing Gnomeo and Juliet.  The movie will start at 5 p.m. and no registration is required.  Popcorn and other snacks will be served.

We will also have a monthly craft night, a Cup Stacking tournament, Book Cover Cake Art, and are excited to be bringing back the Teen Murder Mystery Night.
