Beneath the Surface

Greetings, All!

Well, it's official - Summer Reading is here!  Starting tomorrow, you can come down to the Teen department to register, get your candy, and sign up for programs.  Also, on Monday, I will have bonus refreshments for all of you who register on the first day of the program.
This is another busy week and I look forward to seeing more of you to talk about Summer Reading. I'll be at West Bristol, Hubbell, and South Side this week.
The last thing I want to mention is that the Weekly Photo and Weekly Craft challenge will be posted by the end of the day.  These are extra ways to earn raffle tickets.  There will also be directions in the post for how to participate.
That's it for now - I hope to see you all at the Library!

Summer Reading 2013

Hey Gang,
I've begun my annual school visits to talk about Summer Reading.  Today I visited Greene-Hills and this week will also find me at St. Anthony's, West Bristol, and Edgewood.  I can't wait to visit with all of you to talk about the programs I have for you this summer.
You can actually start registering for Summer Reading next Monday (6/17).  I won't have seen all of you by then at your school, but you should have gotten a flyer at school and you can definitely come down and register at that point.  On Monday, I'll kick off the start of SR with some refreshments in the Teen department.
For those of you looking to get your Summer Reading book, you can also find those in the Teen department.  Look for the books with the blue sticker on the spine.
I hope to see you all next week!

Musings from the Teen Department

Greetings, Teens!
Long time, no blog.  It's difficult to believe but the Teen department is getting ready to kick off its 2013 Summer Reading Program!  This year's theme is Beneath the Surface and there are some amazing activities planned.

We officially kick off Summer Reading on June 17th so make sure to come down and register and get your fill of candy from the Basket o' Deliciousness.

In the meantime, stop by the Teen department to check out the newest batch of Nutmeg Nominees.  May as well get an early start on that summer reading!

See you soon,
Jodi

Upcoming Teen "Stuff"

Greetings, Teens - and Happy New Year!

We are only a few days into 2013 and I can already tell it's going to be a great year in the Teen department. Make sure to stop by next week for lots of fabulous things that will be happening.

1. I am getting a bunch of new books in - who doesn't love finding new things to read?
2. Monday (1/7) is Teen Movie Night.  This is a drop-in event that begins at 5:30.  Popcorn and delicious baked goods will be served.  We'll be showing a newly released animation flick about a kid who sees ghosts - it's very Paranormal.  (I just dropped a huge hint in there).  If you still aren't sure and want to check on the title, call the YA desk at 860.584.7787 ext 2020.
3. Wednesday (1/9) is Teen Game Night.  We are playing my most favorite game in the world - Apples to Apples.  This program is drop-in and begins at 6 PM.

Lastly, I just want to let all of you know that there is an amazing program that you can sign up for.  It's called Click! and it's a teen photography program.  The Friends of the Library are funding this program that allows me, and some professional photographers, to teach you how to take and edit amazing photos.  We'll be editing in Photoshop and taking on some crazy picture-taking scavenger hunts.  However, space is limited for this event - which will run on Thursdays beginning 1/24 at 3:45 PM.  If you want more info, you can pick up a flyer at the YA desk.  Space is limited and registration is required.  Participants must be able to come to all 8 sessions and have their own camera to use.

Hope to see you all soon!

Tuesday, October 16th - We will be showing one of the best book to movies around.  Come to the library for 5 PM for an encore showing of The Hunger Games.  Snacks will be provided!

Happy reading!

Books!

After conquering that one summer book that you were required to read, it's time to find something new.  Stop by the YA department where I have a slew of new books on display.  I also have some fun non-fiction out for those of you who want to smarten up with some random facts for the new school year.  If you are ever curious to find out which books I thought were amazing, just check out the Staff Picks throughout the shelves.  I even put a bright, red label on the spine so they POP out at you.

Happy reading!

Fall Stuff

Greetings, Teens!
I can't believe that summer is nearly over.  I figured we'd end vacation with a great program at the library.  This Friday, 8/24, there will be an after hours movies for those in grades 6 to 12.  Since I can't actually say the name of the movie, here are some hints.

Katniss
Peeta
Haymitch

I don't need to keep going, do I?

So, stop by on Friday for a 5:30 showing of one of the most amazing movies ever (my opinion, of course).  There will be assorted delicious foods and beverages available.

Also, make sure to pick up a copy of the Fall Schedule.  There are so many great programs coming up over the next few months.  Most are drop in but a few do require registration.
