Upcoming Teen "Stuff"

Greetings, Teens - and Happy New Year!

We are only a few days into 2013 and I can already tell it's going to be a great year in the Teen department. Make sure to stop by next week for lots of fabulous things that will be happening.

1. I am getting a bunch of new books in - who doesn't love finding new things to read?
2. Monday (1/7) is Teen Movie Night.  This is a drop-in event that begins at 5:30.  Popcorn and delicious baked goods will be served.  We'll be showing a newly released animation flick about a kid who sees ghosts - it's very Paranormal.  (I just dropped a huge hint in there).  If you still aren't sure and want to check on the title, call the YA desk at 860.584.7787 ext 2020.
3. Wednesday (1/9) is Teen Game Night.  We are playing my most favorite game in the world - Apples to Apples.  This program is drop-in and begins at 6 PM.

Lastly, I just want to let all of you know that there is an amazing program that you can sign up for.  It's called Click! and it's a teen photography program.  The Friends of the Library are funding this program that allows me, and some professional photographers, to teach you how to take and edit amazing photos.  We'll be editing in Photoshop and taking on some crazy picture-taking scavenger hunts.  However, space is limited for this event - which will run on Thursdays beginning 1/24 at 3:45 PM.  If you want more info, you can pick up a flyer at the YA desk.  Space is limited and registration is required.  Participants must be able to come to all 8 sessions and have their own camera to use.

Hope to see you all soon!

Books!

After conquering that one summer book that you were required to read, it's time to find something new.  Stop by the YA department where I have a slew of new books on display.  I also have some fun non-fiction out for those of you who want to smarten up with some random facts for the new school year.  If you are ever curious to find out which books I thought were amazing, just check out the Staff Picks throughout the shelves.  I even put a bright, red label on the spine so they POP out at you.

Happy reading!

Fall Stuff

Greetings, Teens!
I can't believe that summer is nearly over.  I figured we'd end vacation with a great program at the library.  This Friday, 8/24, there will be an after hours movies for those in grades 6 to 12.  Since I can't actually say the name of the movie, here are some hints.

Katniss
Peeta
Haymitch

I don't need to keep going, do I?

So, stop by on Friday for a 5:30 showing of one of the most amazing movies ever (my opinion, of course).  There will be assorted delicious foods and beverages available.

Also, make sure to pick up a copy of the Fall Schedule.  There are so many great programs coming up over the next few months.  Most are drop in but a few do require registration.

Week 5

It's hard to believe but Summer Reading is already halfway over!  Don't worry, there is still plenty of time left to earn lots of raffle tickets.  Also, if you haven't signed up yet, what are you waiting for?  Come on down to the YA department and get going!

We have another busy week ahead of us - enjoy!

For those of you who signed up, tonight (Monday, 7/16) is the Graphic Novel Art workshop with the CT Humanities.  The program will begin at 6 PM.  This program is full so, unfortunately, no one else may register at this time.

Tuesday, 7/17 @ 1 PM - The Hampstead Stage Company will be here for an afternoon of Improv acting!  Test your acting abilities out or just sit back and enjoy the show.

Wednesday, 7/18 - Teen Craft Night.  We will be making jewelry using beads and safety pins.  The 6 PM time slot is full but I did open up a 7 PM time where there is still a few spots left.  Call the YA desk to sign up.

Friday, 7/20 - Healthtrax will be back at 12 PM for another fitness class!

See you all at the library!

Week 3

Hello, Teens!
It's hard to believe, but we are already in to Week 3 for our Own the Night program.  Last night we had an amazing art instructor come to do a Pastel Art workshop.  Everyone's versions of Starry Night were amazing - I wish I had done one, too!

We have one drop-in program this week which will be on Friday.  Healthtrax will be here to do a Core Fitness program.  Come in and work out at the library - you'll earn raffle tickets!

Just a reminder, the library will be closed on Wednesday for the 4th of July.  So make sure you stop in by 8 PM Tuesday to grab whatever books/materials you'll need to get you through Wednesday.

Also, make sure to stop in this week with your Goodie Coupons - it's double candy week!

Have a great week!
